The eternal quad "F" of contemporary Asian American Christian life: Faith, Family, Fellowship, Fun... lots of it these past few days.

Saturday night after AWANA was pretty fun... the old crew of Josh, Chris, and I went out to Jillian's to hang out and shoot pool. Did I mention we each had a female companion? I suppose it's no great mystery who Josh and I brought... as for Chris, you'll have to ask him yourself, heh. It was a lot of fun getting everybody together, even if we had tolerate Fong trash talking... not that it mattered, *cough*. After some competitive rounds of good 'ol "Cut-throat", I'm proud to say Shiv and I emerged victorious with 3 games under our belts. Wh00t! Not to mention the fun of playing the arcade games downstairs... I got whooped in Pop-Shot (Shiv) and videogame racing (Josh). To some up what I always tell my AWANA kids... "Everybody's a winner!" hahahaah =)

Today of course is Easter Sunday as well, and March 31st. Besides the usual brunch (Shiv came over again to eat with the fam), Easter for me always seems to mark an end to a season of reflection in my life. It shouldn't surprise me then that ironically, this month would contribute another milestone in my life in graduating from college. Add to the list of other important events surrounding Easter like my baptism, my father's death and his birthday. I didn't think much of it, but today, my father would have been 57. Happy Birthday, Dad.

But I digress... today's sermon didn't speak that much too me, but for some reason I was drawn to read the following passage during my spare time:

"You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation." Romans 5:6-11

Christ died and lived, so we can live... what a simple and marvelous truth I too often forget to meditate on. Praise God!

It's Easter weekend. I'm home for it and I find myself contemplating much about the lessons of college life and what the future bodes. Oh well.

Random Note:

Mmmm... guns. Was browsing this site and felt nostalgic about my childhood. Interestingly enough, this particular passage comes to mind. I read often in arguments by Christian gunowners. Note to self: more research on the subject as leisure time allows.

My mornings this past week have usually gone like this, but since it's Easter weekend I'm home and away from TacOps. I wonder if it'll help my sleep... heh...

Today was another day of vacation, but I was thankful for the freedom...

I got a lot done. I ran a lot of errands, including the all important paycheck pickup, and even though it was pretty small... hey, every little bit counts. I also paid off some old fines and wrapped up some work related things, but it occurs to me that there's another set of things I have to do at the registration offices in Schmitz. Who would of thought graduation was this much work? ha... =)

After a hard day's work of errands, I took the evening off with Shiv... cooked up some yakisoba and rented "A.I." on DVD. I was surprised at how much I liked the movie, given all the negative press and reviews around it. I think for most people, the fact that movie's story raises questions isn't enough to justify 2 hours... I guess most people probably don't spend as much time as I do pondering the issues of human morality and the nature/meaning of what it to be human. heh heh. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot... the kid from "The Sixth Sense" did a good job making the robot-boy character genuinely believable.

Oh yeah, we also watch "CSI" on CBS. Very nifty show, I must admit I'm hooked now too...

Return of the late night beast...

TacOps is officially in my blood again. I just played a 5 hours, at first as excuse that I was waiting for the shower, then as an excuse that I am raving insomniac, and then as an excuse that its something to help me keep warm (it's pretty cold, but that's another story). Something magical about the rat-tat-tat sound of the guns firing, the bullet shells hitting the ground, and the computerized yells of "Cover me!" and "Man down!" Simply too much fun... heh

Speaking of fun, Shiv and I finally caught "Amelie", this quirky French movie that Mel and Sam have been raving about for awhile. It's an independent film, so normally, I'd probably wait to rent it since it's hard to find anybody to go see independent films with. Look how long it took everyone to catch on to "Crouching Tiger", even after I saw it opening night and was raving about it!!! But I digress. Shiv told me she wanted to see after I told her how my friend Josh's GF was taking him with her to go see it, heh. So today... well, technically yesterday (Monday), we went to Bellevue to see it. Turns out it's only showing in 2 movie theatres in Seattle right now. In any case, I actually enjoyed the movie a lot. The story was original, the characters were very well-fleshed out... plus the whole cinematic style of the movie itself was very unique... lots of creative use of old footage, rapid pans and zooms. I had a lot of fun watching it with Shiv.

Well, time for a shower and sleep...

FREEDOM.

Well, today, it's done with... I turned in my last paper ever for my school, my take-home test for my BizPolicy class. I ate lunch with the old crew, Josh and Chris to celebrate... afterwards, Josh and I swung by the store to grab some treats for an early afternoon celebration. Nothing like kicking back and watching the tube over some fermented brew... hahahaha. =)

A strange feeling it is to know that school is done with... it feels good.

My last final test ever... DONE WITH!

Today was a little bit harder than I thought it'd be. Besides the wacky weather (more snow), my allergies were going crazy today... especially during the test. It's bad enough I have to spend two hours handwriting a bunch of bunk essays (I had to answer 8 out of 10 questions), but I had to do all this writing with my nose running like a foundation of snot. I swear, I couldn't even write a single sentence uninterrupted without a sneeze or blowing my nose. Pretty annoying, but at least that's done with.

It probably goes without saying that first thing my afflicted-self did when I got home was pop some anti-histamines, eat, drink, and go to bed. I'm dead tired.

Just one paper left to go... then bye-bye U-Dub.

I don't believe in astrology, but I found this predction for me to be pretty amusing:

"Gar is an unsung hero, an undiscovered genius...and an unknown quantity. It is because Gar is such an unknown quantity that his heroism goes unsung and his genius undiscovered. Some people will blow their own trumpets from the highest hill even when those trumpets are battered and badly out of tune. Gar is rather the opposite. No matter how bright the light inside him shines, he will always find a bushel big enough to hide it under. Gar wants to be thought of as stable, steady, and solid. He tries his best to do what the world expects of him, he wants to be a trooper - a loyal, reliable, down-to-earth kind of character.

In the attempt to give this impression Gar strives to be modest, restrained and realistic. He almost succeeds. Through diligent effort Gar manages to persuade himself and the rest of the watching world that he is a known quantity. At best he will allow himself to be known for his talent in one particular area or for his courage with regard to one particular topic. The trouble is Gar is a Capricorn and Capricorns, despite all that some astrologers say, are always unknown quantities.

Deep down inside Gar yearns to be wild and crazy, footloose and fancy-free. He wants to break the rules, question convention, and court controversy. Only one thing stops him - a little voice in the back of his head that says "Excuse me, who do you think you are? That's not the kind of activity that Gar can get away with." If you want to be a true friend to Gar you must encourage him to ignore that voice. He will love you for it and he won't need much encouraging. Gar was born to be brilliant. He was destined to be daring. One day he will realize this and then...the world had better look out."

An online friend pointed me to this nutty site to get it. Astrology man looks a bit too odd to be making predictions, hahaha.

Oh well... back to studying.

Random note:

Thanks to the phatty renditions by King's Fools, I've been a new fan of Tree63. You can help yourself to two of their songs, "Joy" and "Look What You've Done" right here. Just right click and choose "Save Target As".

No. Freaking. Way.

It's snowing like crazy right now. I'm at work and I as I look out the window, the dense-ness of the snow obscures my vision. Unbelievable... a blizzard in March. Only in Seattle.

Finals sucks. Studying is for the weak. One last quarter.

These be my power mantra triumvirate, heh. Thanks to this week's double paper writing fest, I think my sleep schedule is definitely screwed up. That might explain why I'm up right now, I suppose. At least OptMgmt is through with... the test was two hours excruciating mental anguish, but its done.

One more test and one more paper to go...

Sleep....

Yeah, I'm bored at work and struggling to stay awake.

Since my good friend Chris is already telling me about his future exploits in UCLA (a certain fantasy keeps repeating), I decided to make this. Hollywood and the Oscars, watch out! =)

It's been a long day. I cooked apartment dinner tonight for the Maplewood family and now I'm looking to finally rest... whoohooo!

In the meanwhile, this topic on the IIStix BBS has been keeping me engaged in my basic theology. Gotta stay on point...

Laying broken, I could ask
how often the present mirrors the past
hands that cradle a sun-kissed rose
so often are pricked in its wind-danced throes
let me bleed until sorrow is through
with lowered head to prove my sadness is true
spirit drained for despair to drink
'til living white petals bathe scarlet to pink
for it is not rare for my soul to taste scorn
how the heart aches quietly at another thorn.

Unholy infectif-ication, Batman!!!

Well, yesterday was a new experience for me. My entire computer got infected with virus I got from downloading a simple alarm clock program from download.com... it infected every .EXE file on both of my harddrives and I had to spend about 9+ hours disinfecting them with a DOS-run anti-virus program, because the virus itself had infected every Windows-based program, including my Norton Anti-Virus! Bastard...

At least I can be thankful my computer's fine now... 'cause next week is going to be a busy week. Another two rather large papers are coming up... one on Tuesday for my OpManagement class and one on Thursday for my PoliSci class. Whoohooo!

Did I mention it's snowing here in Seattle, in March? Wacky...

Random note:

This article right here is strangely funny. From my observations of other people's relationships, it's probably more true than not... haha.

Countdown about eight hours until another doomsday final... whoohooo!

At least I'll finally be down with this Mass Media Law class and one step closer to graduation. That's something to be thankful for... that and the cool "The One" DVD from Steph (a belated birthday present, heh) =)

Random note:

This is a cool Firearm Test if you like guns. =)

Pushing the limit. I seem to do be doing it a lot in school lately.

This entire last week, I didn't go to a single lecture for my American Gov't class. It's not that I lack respect for my teacher, it just so happens that this week in school, the subject is rather mundane. At least to me... since it happens to be something I've already had several classes on (the intersection of the news media and politics). Another contributing factor is also probably my half-drugged TA showing up to my 8:30AM section with nothing planned (blame it on the dental surgery). Sorry, Prof. Smith and Mr. Plotts... I got better things to do with my time.

Of a more immediate concern is my distance learning class for mass media law. Before my final examination on Tuesday, I have to complete another 3-4 page paper, this type on publication law and copyrights. Should be fun... did I also mention that the final is 2-hours and that it's at 8:30 in the morning on Wednesday? Yeah... grrrreat.

Yeah, I know... much complaining.

At least I got to eat lunch at Orange King with Shiv today... technically, yesterday I suppose. (er, Saturday).
