Chinese diversity

The Seattle Times has a great article about Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit and the many different reactions in Seattle's Chinese American community - a good primer for all the people who don't know the differences that are there (multigenerational, mainland vs Hong Kong vs Taiwan, etc.).

My grandfather has this old map of China with all of our ethnic groups ringing the outside border. I can't remember how many there are, but it was many dozen...
 
xian - yeah, China is actually a pretty diverse place, probably by virtue of its size. Han Chinese make up more than 90% of the population, but even within that group there's a huge amount of linguistic diversity too...
