seven days...

I just saw an advance screening of The Ring and I got the heebie-jeebies. Super creepy stuff... the movie is American remake of a 1998 Japanese film that was in turn. It's also been remade by a Korean film studio too. I don't want to give away too much of the plot (go see the movie), but the basic premise is that there's a cursed video tape and if you watch it, you're doomed to die in seven days. The story centers around a newspaper reporter, played by Naomi Watts, who begins investigating the tape after learning that her niece watched it and died... and in the process of her investigation, she herself watches the entire tape...

The movie isn't a blood and gore movie... there's definitely some disturbing scenes, but most of the horror of the movie relies on psychological aspects and mood... in some ways, it reminded me a lot of another good horror, The Sixth Sense. The Ring features a boy, the son of the Watts' character, who has some supernatural powers as well. The movie also has the same good use of sound, sound effects, and really claustrophobic camera angles... there are some shots that by their very angle, they had me squirming.

Anyways, go see the movie. Definitely the best horror movie I've seen since the The Sixth Sense. Don't go alone though... duh dum...
