zzz

It's been my birthday for about 3.5 hours. Yippeeeee.

I shouldn't be up this late 'cause I gotta go to the airport tomorrow morning to pickup Shiv, but I just got home... was up late with the crew playing a new board game that Fong got. Yeah, I know... pretty sad, huh? That's what happens when you get four competitive guys playing a game. Nobody wants to lose.

It was a pretty unevent day except for one thing... the mail! I guess I still retain a childlike fascination for getting mail - magazines, postcards, letters, packages. I of course, could live without the spam or bills, though. Anyway, this particular envelope contained a couple of photos, a note, and this:

I have no idea what it is (a wolf? a werewolf?), but it's still nifty anyways. Duo xie, to a certain NY fishie. Ni de zhaopian hen haokan. ;)

news news

-There was a moving story in the Seattle Times about the preventable death of a 37 year old Vietnamese American husband and father. He was working aboard a fishing vessel at sea, but unfortunately his condition (diabetes) went untreated because of both lack of proper medical care (the vessel was at sea in Alaska) and a dangerous work environment, which despite a large number of immigrant workers, often fails to properly communicate to them their rights or American work laws.

-An interesting commentary about God & Sports, also from the Seattle Times. One of the main points is that people frequently invoke God as being on "their side" while never contemplating whether or not they are on God's side. As person who considers himself a Christian, I can't help but be disturbed by how common this attitude is - especially in the current political climate of American politics and society.

How often have American "Christians" frequently justified our countries conduct during the so-called "War on Terror" in the jihad-esque terms that our opponents use? It's OK to torture terrorists or keep them in perpetual confinement in Gitmo, 'cause God is on our side. Besides, God knows that all those non-American, non-Christian, non-white, people are evil murderers, 'cause we're like good and stuff. YES, THEY DESERVED TO DIE, AND I HOPE THEY BURN IN HELL! AMERICA... F*YEAH!"

(you get the idea)
